Langhorne Creek Winery Tour
All Day Tour
$125pp including a light lunch
Langhorne Creek is arguably one of the most underated wine regions in Australia. It’s cooler climate than McLaren Vale or the Barossa and the deep, alluvial sandy loams in the soil produce some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and full bodied Shiraz and Malbec in the country.
Heading out of Adelaide and through the Hills, this is our first destination, just out of Macclesfield. Their recently built tasting room has been constructed featuring recycled materials found around the Macclesfield area. Ancient soils, healthy rainfall, undulating slopes, gentle sun, warm days and cool nights, are an essential part of this unique vineyard's 'terroir' producing pristine sparkling, crisp whites and savoury reds.
Just out of Strathalbyn, this is our second destination with their signature label Vineyard Road. Here you can savor delicate sparkling wine through to their magnificent limited release Belvidere Estate Shiraz. Here also is the first South Australian retail outlet for Vasse Virgin, luxury natural olive oil based body products where you can test and try each of the products before choosing your purchases.
Angas Plains Estate
Just on the outskirts of Langhorne Creek is where we're off to next. Large impressive wooden doors make for an intriguing entrance to the warm and welcoming Wine Tasting area set among the vines with panoramic views across the vineyard to the distant hills. Delicious rustic meals and platters are available with live music 3rd Sunday of the month.
For the past 11 years, this place has been awarded the James Halliday 5 star rated winery which ranks it in the top 5% of all Australian Wineries. The Cellar Door is in the restored 1988 barn where up to 18 wines can be in the range. Local produce and their delicious regionally inspired luncheon platters and tasty gourmet pizzas make this an ideal luncheon stop.
This winery has been owned by the Follett family since 1890 and uses a unique flooding system from the Bremer River to irrigate the vines to see them through the drier summer months. A rustic limestone shed built in the early 1930’s has become home to Lake Breeze wines when it first opened in 1991. Further recent renovations take advantage of the stunning views over the vineyard and provide a contemporary eating and function space. The range of Lake Breeze wines have enjoyed enormous success over the past 25 years and have been recognised with 53 trophies, over 170 gold medals and a plethora of other awards.
This is our final stop, and the name says it all! This house of wine celebrates a fantastic tasting experience, featuring five award winning boutique Langhorne Creek labels, from Ben Potts Wines, Gipsie Jack, Kimbolton, the legendary John Glaetzer’s John’s Blend and Heartland by Ben Glaetzer. If that’s not enough, we are also home to Langhorne Creek’s first craft beer label, Meechi Brewing Company. The Winehouse is a quirky eclectic mix of old and new in a relaxed tranquil setting.
A great venue to finish our Langhorne Creek tour!
